Agronomy Secures UArctic Grant to Advance Traceable Arctic Food Systems

Agronomy Oy has received a $5,000 grant from UArctic to support the development of its Arctic pilot initiative. This funding marks an important validation of Agronomy’s mission to build a producer-first, traceable food marketplace designed specifically for Arctic and Nordic regions. The grant supports early-stage implementation of digital traceability, cold-chain monitoring, and sustainable food logistics, reinforcing Agronomy’s role in strengthening resilient food systems in cold-climate communities.
Strengthening Arctic Food Supply Chains Through TechnologyFood producers in Arctic and Nordic regions often face long, fragmented supply chains that reduce income, increase emissions, and limit transparency for consumers.
Agronomy addresses these challenges by enabling direct-to-consumer food distribution, where farmers and fishers maintain ownership of their brand, pricing, and customer relationships.
Through its digital platform, Agronomy provides:
  • Verified producer profiles and origin transparency
  • Real-time order and inventory management
  • Visibility into freshness, delivery conditions, and CO₂ impact
This approach shortens food miles, reduces dependency on intermediaries, and keeps value within local communities. What the UArctic Grant EnablesThe UArctic grant directly supports several critical components of Agronomy’s Arctic pilot, including:
  • IoT-based cold-chain traceability testing for Arctic logistics
  • Onboarding and training of Finnish farmers on digital sales tools
  • Sustainability and circular economy compliance, including labeling and data privacy
  • Storytelling and awareness-building around transparent, local food systems
These activities help validate Agronomy’s model in real-world Arctic conditions while laying the foundation for scalable growth.Institutional Validation for a Youth-Led Food-Tech Startup
Beyond financial support, the UArctic grant represents institutional confidence in Agronomy’s research-informed and sustainability-driven approach. As a youth-led Finnish food-tech startup, Agronomy operates at the intersection of technology, climate responsibility, and local economic empowerment.
This recognition strengthens Agronomy’s position within the Nordic and Arctic innovation ecosystem and supports its long-term vision of exporting resilient food system models to other cold-climate regions globally.Looking Ahead: Scaling Resilient Food Systems from the Arctic
With the Arctic pilot underway, Agronomy continues to refine its platform, expand producer partnerships, and prepare for international validation. The lessons learned through this grant-supported phase will inform future deployments across Europe and beyond.
Agronomy remains committed to building transparent, fair, and climate-resilient food systems starting in the Arctic.
